Okay, let’s talk about *What Was Once, Is No Longer*, the YouTube series that’s giving us drama for days, but also leaving us with a lot of confusion. I’ve just finished watching the third episode, and while the show is *pretty good*, I have so many thoughts – especially about Trevor and his brother.
First, let’s get into it: Trevor, played by Cyran Davis, and his brother are supposed to be the heart of this show. But can we talk about how little we actually see of their relationship? Like, where’s the backstory? The emotional depth? I mean, if you're going to throw family drama into the mix, at least let us see more of their bond. Instead, they dropped a bomb on us in the mid-season finale, and I’m still picking my jaw off the floor.
So here’s the tea: Trevor and his brother decide to call out Jimmy (played by Tim Harris) in the most reckless, insensitive way possible. They straight-up call him a f**** and then say they don’t deal with “that gay s***.” Um, excuse me?! In the year 2024, we’re still doing this? I don’t know what point they’re trying to make with this storyline, but baby, it’s not sitting right with me. One minute we’re getting what seems like a complicated family dynamic, and then *bam*, they’re just spitting out slurs like it’s nothing. Trevor, what are you doing??
Honestly, I’m trying to figure out the message here. Are they showing us that Trevor is low-key trash? Or are we supposed to believe there’s some deeper, hidden conflict? Because if there is, I need them to get to the point *real quick*. Right now, it feels like they’re just throwing drama at us without any explanation, and we’re left wondering who we’re supposed to root for.
As for Jimmy – Tim Harris is doing the best he can with the role, but after the disrespect he faced in this episode, I’m hoping they give his character some redemption. Let Jimmy drag them a little in the next episode! At this point, the brotherly drama feels like it's distracting from what could be a really interesting storyline about Trevor and his circle of friends. We need some clarity on what direction the show is headed in.
The cast is solid, though. Raeshaun Williams as Lamont and Jay White as Nicholas are definitely bringing the heat. But Shelton Ford as Adrian? Messy boots. I live for the chaos his character brings, even though it’s a lot.
I’ll keep watching, but honestly, they need to step it up in the writing department. Give us more heart, less unnecessary mess, and maybe a storyline that actually goes somewhere. Fingers crossed the second half of the season gives us the real tea we’ve been waiting for.
