Juneteenth is more than just a date—it’s a celebration of freedom, resilience, and Black joy. And what better way to honor that legacy than by gathering with family and friends for a soulful potluck?
The moment you walk in, the house is buzzing. Laughter echoes from the front porch, kids are running wild in the backyard, and the smell of grilled ribs, fried catfish, and mac and cheese fills the air like a warm hug from Grandma herself. This isn’t just a meal—it’s a reunion, a revival, a reminder.
Everyone brings their best dish. Auntie Dee showed up with her famous collard greens—seasoned just right with smoked turkey. Cousin Malik whipped up some jerk chicken that has everyone sweating and going back for seconds. There’s sweet potato pie, cornbread, baked beans, and somebody even brought a pan of vegan lasagna (because it is 2025 after all). The table is long, but the love? Even longer.
In between bites and refills, there are stories. About the ancestors who fought for freedom, the elders who marched for civil rights, and the babies we’re raising to know their worth. The playlist? A mix of Marvin Gaye, Beyoncé, and a little gospel because somebody’s going to get caught in the spirit before the sun goes down.
We play spades, sip sweet tea, talk mess, and celebrate life.
This is Juneteenth, our way. A potluck that’s not just about the food, but about feeding the soul.
