πŸŽ’ My First New York City Adventure on a $600 Budget – From Chicago to the Big Apple

New York City has always been at the top of my travel bucket list, but with only $600 in my pocket, I knew I'd have to get creative. From flights and food to hidden gems and budget-friendly stays, here's how I pulled off my first NYC trip from October 13–15 without breaking the bank.

✈️ Getting There: Chicago to NYC for Less Than $100

Flights between Chicago (ORD) and New York (JFK/LGA) can be surprisingly affordable if you book early. I grabbed a roundtrip Spirit Airlines flight for $89 using Expedia.

Travel Tip: Be flexible with travel times, pack light to avoid baggage fees, and always compare multiple booking sites.

🏨 Where I Stayed: Budget Meets Comfort

New York hotels are notoriously expensive, but I found a great deal at Pod 51 in Midtown Manhattan, paying $122/night. My total for 3 nights was around $390, which left me with enough for food and fun.

Booking Link: Pod 51 on Orbitz

This hotel offers compact rooms and a rooftop garden — perfect for a solo traveler who wants location over luxury.

πŸ—“️ What I Did: 3 Days of Affordable NYC Magic

Day 1: Central Park to Brooklyn Bridge

  • Walked through Central Park (Free)
  • Grabbed a $6 bagel at Ess-a-Bagel
  • Explored The High Line and Chelsea Market
  • Ate $5 tacos at Los Tacos No. 1
  • Watched the sunset from the Brooklyn Bridge

Day 2: Bushwick, Brooklyn, and Hidden History

  • Murals at Bushwick Street Art
  • Explored Domino Park
  • Cheap, delicious dinner at Juliana’s Pizza

Day 3: Offbeat Adventures

  • Rode the Roosevelt Island Tram for amazing views ($2.90)
  • Visited The Met Cloisters (Pay-what-you-wish)
  • Ended the day with falafel at Mamoun’s ($6)

🍽️ Eating on a Dime in NYC

I discovered some seriously good food on a budget:

  • Prince Street Pizza: Iconic slices (~$6)
  • Levain Bakery: Legendary cookies (~$5)
  • Xi’an Famous Foods: Spicy hand-pulled noodles (~$12)

All meals stayed under $25/day, thanks to delis, food trucks, and local gems.

πŸ’Έ My Budget Breakdown

🧳 Final Thoughts: New York on a Budget Is Possible

Traveling to New York City on a tight budget might sound impossible, but with a bit of planning and flexibility, it’s 100% doable. I experienced the best of NYC — street art, amazing food, and unforgettable views — without spending more than $600 total.

If you're dreaming of the Big Apple but don't have big bucks, this itinerary proves you can still have a trip of a lifetime.

🍿 Once Upon a Time in Beverly Hills (minus some ladies)

🍿 Once Upon a Time in Beverly Hills (minus some ladies) RHOBH used to be about glitz, glam, drama, and personalities with something to lose — or gain. At its peak, it had chaotic friendships, sparkling wardrobes, back-room blowups, and a twisted sense of loyalty. But lately? It’s beginning to feel less like “Real Housewives” and more like “Real House-of-Cards.” And this season — with the exit of Garcelle Beauvais — might just prove it. Garcelle wasn’t just another cast member. She was one of the few who seemed to bring a bit of heart and a dash of backbone to the chaos. And yet — after five seasons — she walked. Dramatically. Without a reunion photo. Without apologies. Saying bluntly, “I’m done.” Sweetheart, same. So yes — I’m done too. πŸ”₯ Why I’m Ready to Drop the “Housewives” Label 1. Loyalty isn’t a thing anymore — it’s a sales pitch It used to be that friendships on RHOBH were messy and flawed but lived-in. Back-stage back-ups, side alliances, shady calls, bu...

Reality TV, Redemption & Receipts: What Are You Signing Up For?

Reality TV, Redemption & Receipts: What Are You Signing Up For? When you say yes to reality TV, what are you really saying yes to? Former two-time America’s Next Top Model contestant Lisa D'Amato is speaking out ahead of the Netflix documentary Reality Check: Inside America’s Next Top Model, and baby… it’s giving unfinished business. And if you’re someone dreaming of going on reality TV (and I know you love writing about reality shows and how to get cast πŸ‘€), this conversation matters. Let’s break this down — and ask the real questions. Why Watch the Documentary at All? Lisa says she’ll be watching the Netflix documentary — but not for nostalgia. She wants to see how the experiences are edited. That word right there: edited. Because when you film a reality show, you don’t own the narrative. The producers do. She’s concerned the stories may be “softened.” That trauma might be packaged neatly. That accountability might feel… polished. So here’s the first question: πŸ‘‰ ...
